Pasadena, the city along the Houston Ship Channel east of downtown Houston, has something many Harris County suburbs don't: two of the county's justice courts keep offices inside the city. So a credit card or collection suit against a Pasadena resident may well be heard close to home. It may also land in a Houston courthouse, depending on how much is claimed and where the plaintiff decided to file.
Texas Debt Law defends Pasadena residents sued by credit card banks, debt buyers, collection agencies and lenders, for a flat fee, in English or Spanish.

Pasadena's Place in Harris County
Pasadena is home to about 149,617 people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2024 estimate, and the whole city lies in Harris County. Every Pasadena debt case therefore runs through the Harris County system, which has three levels of court that hear consumer debt cases.
The Two Justice Courts in Pasadena
Harris County has 16 justice courts, organized as 8 precincts with 2 "places" each. The county's court contact list puts two of them in Pasadena:
- Precinct 2, Place 2: 101 South Richey, Suite B, Pasadena
- Precinct 8, Place 1: 7330 Spencer Highway, Pasadena
Their partner courts, Precinct 2, Place 1 and Precinct 8, Place 2, are listed at Houston addresses. Because the precinct lines don't follow city limits, two Pasadena neighbors could be sued in different precincts, and a plaintiff can sometimes file outside your home precinct. Don't drive to the nearest office and assume your file is there. Check the precinct and place on your citation, or search the justice court case search.
Justice courts handle claims up to $20,000, and most credit card suits fit under that limit. Your answer in any of them is due by the end of the 14th day after you were served (Tex. R. Civ. P. 502.5).
When the Case Is in Downtown Houston
A larger balance, or a plaintiff that simply prefers the county courts, means a case in one of the five Harris County Civil Courts at Law, which the courts' site places at the Harris County Civil Courthouse, 201 Caroline, in downtown Houston. Some suits, such as large loan or repossession deficiency claims, are filed in a civil district court instead; those records are kept by the Harris County District Clerk.
In either court, you have until 10:00 a.m. on the Monday after 20 days have passed since service to answer (Rule 99(b)). If the plaintiff files a motion for summary judgment on or after March 1, 2026, the response is due 21 days after the motion is filed (Rule 166a).
From Pasadena, downtown is a drive and a parking bill. We spare you most of that by filing electronically and handling the case by phone and email; if a hearing truly needs you, we'll tell you ahead of time.

Building Your Defense
We start by filing your answer, because that alone prevents a default judgment. Then we make the plaintiff do what it has to do to win: prove that you owe this debt, in this amount, to this plaintiff.
For a debt buyer, that means records showing the account passed from the original bank to the company suing you. For any plaintiff, it means statements that support the balance, not just an affidavit with a number in it. We also check the dates. Texas sets a general four-year limit on debt suits (Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 16.004), and debt buyers may not sue on time-barred consumer debt (Fin. Code § 392.307).
When the evidence falls short, we push for dismissal. When a case should be tried, we prepare it. When a settlement serves you better, we negotiate it and put every term in writing. Our firm has had hundreds of debt lawsuits dismissed, and we'll give you a straight assessment of yours.
Collector misconduct, such as threats, calls to your workplace or false statements about the debt, can support claims under the FDCPA and Texas Debt Collection Act. Those claims are a separate service from debt defense.

Questions from Pasadena Residents
My citation says Precinct 8, Place 1. Is that the court on Spencer Highway?
Yes. Harris County lists Precinct 8, Place 1 at 7330 Spencer Highway in Pasadena. Precinct 2, Place 2 is the Pasadena court on South Richey.
I work at a plant on the Ship Channel. Can a creditor garnish my wages?
No, not for consumer debt. Texas law protects current wages from garnishment, wherever you work (Tex. Const. art. XVI, § 28). After a judgment, a creditor may try to reach a bank account, which is why answering on time matters.
Is my house safe if I lose?
Texas homestead protection generally shields your home from ordinary creditors, and personal property is exempt up to $50,000 for a single adult or $100,000 for a family (Property Code chapters 41 and 42).
I already have a default judgment from one of the Pasadena courts. Is it too late?
Not necessarily. Depending on timing and service, it may be challenged. Otherwise we can negotiate a post-judgment settlement.
