Hutto has grown into a city of about 42,661 people (U.S. Census Bureau, 2024 estimate), all of it in Williamson County, along US 79 east of Round Rock. If you live here and a creditor sues you, the case will almost certainly be filed in a Williamson County court, but not in Hutto itself. None of the county's courts is located in the city.
Texas Debt Law defends Hutto residents in credit card, debt buyer and loan collection lawsuits for a flat fee. Distance isn't a problem: we file electronically and work with you by phone, text and email from our Frisco office.

Where a Hutto Case Goes
Williamson County has four justice court precincts. According to the county's precinct pages, the four courts are in four different cities:
- Precinct One: Round Rock
- Precinct Two: Cedar Park
- Precinct Three: Georgetown
- Precinct Four: Taylor, at 211 W. 6th Street (Precinct Four page)
Which one has your case depends on the precinct your address falls in. The county says you can find it on your voter registration card or with its address search. The citation itself will also name the court.
Justice courts take civil suits up to $20,000 (Gov't Code § 27.031). If the creditor sued for more, or chose a higher court, the case will be in one of the county's five county courts at law or a district court, all at the Justice Center in Georgetown.
How a Justice Court Debt Case Unfolds
Justice court is built to be simpler than the higher courts, but it has its own rules, and the first one is strict.
1. The answer: 14 days
Your written answer is due by the end of the 14th day after you were served (Tex. R. Civ. P. 502.5). If the case is in a county court at law or district court instead, the deadline is 10:00 a.m. on the Monday after 20 days (Rule 99(b)). Use our answer deadline calculator. Without an answer, the plaintiff can get a default judgment.
2. A jury, if you want one
The county's justice court page notes that every party to a civil suit has the right to request a jury.
3. Limited discovery
In justice court, pretrial discovery generally requires the judge's approval (Tex. R. Civ. P. 500.9). That shapes strategy: often the question is simply whether the plaintiff can prove its case at trial with admissible evidence.
4. Trial and appeal
Debt buyers in particular have to prove they own your account and that the amount is right. If either side loses, it can appeal to the county court for a new trial. Precinct Four's self-help page lists the appeal time as 21 days for civil cases other than evictions.
What Usually Decides These Cases
Most debt lawsuits turn on paperwork. A plaintiff that bought your account needs records connecting your account to the original lender and every later owner, plus testimony or affidavits that can actually support those records. A balance padded with interest the contract didn't allow is a problem for the plaintiff. So is an account that went into default more than four years before suit (Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 16.004); debt buyers can't sue on time-barred consumer debt at all (Fin. Code § 392.307).
We go through those points with you, then decide on a plan: fight for dismissal, prepare for trial, or negotiate a resolution you can afford. Any settlement is written down before you pay.

We charge a flat fee set by the amount you were sued for, starting at $400, with payment plans available.

Hutto Debt Lawsuit FAQs
Will I have to drive to Taylor, Round Rock or Georgetown?
Not to answer the suit; we file it electronically. If the court sets a trial or hearing that requires you, we'll tell you which courthouse and when, well ahead of time.
The plaintiff got a judgment and talked about an "abstract of judgment." What is that?
Williamson County's justice court self-help page explains that a judgment creditor can get an abstract of judgment and record it with the county clerk in any county where the debtor owns real property. It creates a lien on non-exempt real estate. Your homestead is generally exempt (Property Code ch. 41). Current wages can't be garnished for consumer debt (Tex. Const. art. XVI, § 28), and personal property up to $50,000 ($100,000 for a family) is generally protected (ch. 42).
Can you still help after a judgment?
Yes. We review whether the judgment can be challenged, and we negotiate post-judgment settlements for the same flat fees as debt defense.
Is the deadline different because Hutto is a smaller city?
No. The deadline depends only on the type of court, under statewide rules.
